Cannot Play Real Media format

  • I was having issues streaming video content over SMB and was able to get MPG/AVI formats to play by playing with the NTFS and share permissions on the Windows box. Real Media format will still not play. To rule out any network/samba issues I copied it locally to the XBOX HD and it will still not play. I'm not able to get debug mode to work so all the log says is:

    : cmplayer::openfile() F:gratuitous porn.rm failed
    : skipping unplayable item: 0, path [F:gratuitous porn.rm]

    If I play it with the DVD player it appears to be playing the audio, no video, but no audio acually plays. The error log says this:

    The CAPlayer doesnt work either and logs this:

    20:44:53 M: 36655104 ERROR: CAudioDecoder: Unable to Init Codec while loading file F:hogtied-3276hi.rm
    20:44:53 M: 36839424 ERROR: Playlist Player: skipping unplayable item: 0, path [F:gratuitous porn.rm]

    I'm running 2.01 on an old 1.0 or 1.1 xbox on EVOX with the EVOX D6 BIOS.

    I am a total newbie to XBMC, any pointers are appreciated.

    your bios and dash versons are irrelevent. the xbox isnt in debug mode, just xbmc. and debug mode just means it logs more info. you probably just did it wrong. you should just have to hold x and y down while xbmc loads. dont let go until you see the home screen. (and depending on your version, you may see a freemem counter in the corner of the screen.)

    if yuo cant get that to work, you can enable it from xml configuration as well. it would either xboxmediacenter.xml or userdata/advancedsettings.xml, again depeding on your version.

  • Well I don't really get it. I failed to mention that prior to posting I updated the video player to the latest beta build in an effort to get it to work but it didn't. So I enabled debug as well as backed the video player off to the one that comes with XBMC 2.0.1 and most of the real media played. I turned off the debug and it kept working. So I'm back to where I started but now real media plays. Chalk it up to user error I guess.

    So now things are working for most real media. Some clips go to a black screen that locks up the XBMC. The ones that do play are not formatted correctly, they go off the screen high and left pretty good. Is there a fix for this? AVI's and WMV's play fine.

  • Any idea why I can't enter debug mode? Old BIOS or dashboard maybe? It would help to be able to pinopoint the problem. RM playing is one of the big reasons I finally upgraded from XBox Media Player.
